Your candle can create a unique atmosphere in your home. Burning your candle correctly will allow it to last longer and reduce the risk of fire hazards. Let's review some tips to enjoy your scented candle.
When burning your candle the first time, allow it to burn until the top layer of wax on the surface melts all the way to the edges - this could take two to three hours. Doing this will set the course for how your candle will burn each time you light it. Extinguishing your candle too soon after lighting it can cause tunneling, which happens when a candle burns in the center, but leaves a ring of hard wax around the outer edges. So make sure your candle reaches a full melt pool before extinguishing it! The wax level in the glass vessel will rise as the wax molds melt,
Before lighting your candle, trim the wicks to 1/4 inch and trim them again each time before every burn. This removes any 'blooming' at the top of the wick, creating soot that can fall back into the wax. Wick trimmers are ideal, but if you don't have one handy, you can also use nail clippers to trim the wicks.
Candles add ambiance to any space, especially if you're entertaining or trying to relax after a long day. It's tempting to want to leave your candle burning for a long time while enjoying the scent. However, you do not want to burn through your candle in one sitting. After three to four hours maximum, your candle should be extinguished. This will prevent your candle from over heating, which can cause excess smoke, mushroom-looking wicks, the glass vessel from getting too hot, or a weak fragrance from your candle. To optimize the fragrance and burning experience of your candle, you should burn it in increments and take time to give it the proper care and attention it needs.
