Rose & Chamomile – Herb Infused Oil Fun

Olive Oil infused with Chamomile flowers and Rose Petals

The oil in this jar is the product of herbs & oil infused over 2 months. Thrive Market olive oil mixed with dried rose petals and chamomile flowers from Mountain Rose Herbs filled most of this 16oz mason jar for about 2-4 months.

Why so long? Because sometimes dried herbs take longer to infuse than fresh herbs. And there are different theories and biases regarding the potency of using dried herbs for oil infusions.

To be honest, I am new to the herbalism world and work mostly with dried herbs. Access to fresh herbs post-COVID 19 is challenging. I don’t drive, experience anxiety and panic attacks in populated areas, and am a beginning gardener who’s already lost some plants to mistakes 🙁

On the happy side, this oil is a beautiful greenish gold color that smells amazing. And I am happy to get about 14 oz of oil from the mix.

Experiments are Fun and Messy

Here is a short, home-made video of me distilling the oil using a glass measuring cup, metal strainer, and cheesecloth.

If you look closely, the rose petals and chamomile flowers look soft. In reality, they are dried and brittle – easily crushed by my gloved hand – and make crinkly sounds as I press down.

Not sure if you can hear those sounds, but the metal-on-glass sounds come out loud and clear.

What kinds of fun and/or messy experiments do you conduct at home?

Any of them taste or smell good?

Love and Rainbows,
